Your LJ comments are provocative and original, making full use of the alchemical powers of fiction to synthesize a universe that mirrors our own - fiction as a way of illuminating the world without obliterating its complexity. Dark, nerve-chafing satire that puts its finger on the pulse of the present and its possible impact on the future.

You, sir, are a true visionary.

TS Lore: Volume One - Dawn of the Beast [19 Oct 2004|07:56pm]
Well isn't this an exciting and historical moment? The first in a four part series of TS Lore updates by yours truly (it's John this time, not Brandon). My goal with this series is to provide you, gentle reader, with some interesting background on TS that may or may not be factual. I'll try to stay on topic, so I will refrain from mentioning that I'm currently rediscovering my love for videogames, or that I'm gearing up for a weekend of non-stop rock, or that my village whore of a graphing-calculator is even now being lent and borrowed all over the school, or...

I'm sorry. It won't happen again.

This entry isn't about me. It's about TS, and I am determined to keep it that way. Since I promised an entry with substance, I've decided to make this about the creation of TS. Many of you will be familiar with the "history" of TS recorded in the preview site (if you're not familiar with it, then I can only refer you here), but this one will be far more historically accurate. By that, I of course mean that more than 5% of it is true.

Our story begins many moons ago. How many, I'm not quite sure. Brandon's longtime interest in making original videogames (he started before most reasonable children start preschool) finally seemed possible thanks to a little program called "Klik & Play." Using this program, one could make simple games by placing graphics on the screen and then dictating to the computer how they were to interact. True, the program was limited. Most games made with the program were extraordinarily primitive shooters of platformers.

Brandon, for his first attempt, made his own version of "The Legend of Zelda."

A couple years passed as Brandon worked on other games and demos, which few were privileged to see. After becoming bored with the limitations of "Klik & Play," he discovered a more advanced version of the program called "Muti-Media Fusion" (MMF). This offered far more possibilities than its predecessor. Indeed, whole internet communities were already established where users of MMF posted their games for download and (gasp!) purchase. True, they were simple games, often no better than NES standards in terms of gameplay, but there where a few gems that proved that good things could come of using MMF. Brandon made the switch.

It was at about that time that I entered the picture, and (maybe coincidentally) also about that time that the hobby advanced beyond a mere pastime. We started to have dreams of making good enough demos and games that we could get ourselves hired by "real" videogame companies, or games that we could sell over the internet and pay our way through college. As our skills grew, so too grew our ambitions.

Most recently (perhaps a year or two ago), we gave up on "Click Software" like MMF entirely, and made the switch to C++, the programming language of the big boys. Similarly, we also abandoned such dreams as getting hired by a videogame company, or paying our own way through college. We'd come to the conclusion that we could do it for real, right out of the starting block. We didn't need to rely on a big corporation for our financial success. We could make it on our own.

So that's where we find ourselves now. We're working non-stop to make our dream of starting our own videogame company a reality. Soon enough, it'll all be over, and the public will see the fruits of our labor. As you may have guessed, we're both excited and nervous about this, but I think our work will speak for itself.

I don't know what to update with tonight. It was a lazy day.

The evening was lovely. Short, but sweet.

Don't even try to stop me.

Using the random page button on the Wikipedia, I plan to aggregate all the world's knowledge. I will then use that knowledge for evil.

I've already absorbed all there is to know about Nathaniel Folsom, the movie "Nosferatu", all notable events on July 29th, Leonard Chess, record changers, wolf herring, the works of John Keel, Dibble, Oklahoma, Agrippina the elder, Coccidioidomycosis, and the word "aggregate."

Today I did a bunch of stuff. It was interesting.

John's brother heads off to college tomorrow. Very strange. We made him a Hello Kitty shirt... at his request.

If you see Chrissy around, encourage her to buy this car:

Alright, keeps it real, homies.

WELL, after a lot of doing random stuff, we've made a desolate husk of a TS Preview Site. A meatless skeleton of a webpage. A mere shadow of things to come.

What I'm trying to say is I'm too lazy/annoyed to fill this thing out right now, but what we have so far is at least respectable. I'll be sure to add more substance to it steadily through the days to come. But for now...

Hooray for actually getting stuff done!

I'm going to drink some more coffee now.
